Argentine military police officer Nahuel Gallo, who has been detained in Venezuela for over a year on counts of conspiracy and espionage, called his partner for the first time from his enclosure at the El Rodeo 1 detention center, the woman said. Gallo was arrested on December 8 while trying to enter Venezuela to see his partner, Venezuelan national María Alexandra Gómez, and their baby son, who were living in Caracas. The man was accused of taking part in a plot against Nicolás Maduro’s government. His family had not been able to contact him until now. “After 445 days, my soul has returned to my body. Nahuel called me, Nahuel called to tell me he remains strong. That he needs us to be strong,” Gómez wrote in an X post on Thursday. “We want him FREE, he needs to be with his family.” Reports from Venezuela state that Gallo had been taking part in a hunger strike along with fellow prisoners in El Rodeo 1 for the past five days. People living in the area posted videos of the prisoners yelling for help on Wednesday night. An unexpected phone call The call between the couple actually happened while Gómez was being interviewed by Argentine station Radio Del Plata, and the moment of the call was caught on camera while the show was being livestreamed. While sitting at the radio studio, Gómez suddenly saw a call on her phone, got up and took off her headphones saying “I need to get this, I need to get this!” Seconds later, she could be heard in the background saying: “Hello? Oh, my love…” “We can’t believe what is happening right now,” the radio host said as he told the audience what had just happened.
