Milei arrives in Budapest to meet with Hungarian leader Viktor Orban

Date:

Argentine President Javier Milei arrived in Budapest on Friday to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Milei is set to give a speech in the closing ceremony of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a global right-wing conference in which he usually participates. Leading far-right figures such as Orbn, Santiago Abascal (leader of the far-right Spanish political party Vox), and former Brazilian congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro will also speak at the event. U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to send a special message. It will be Mileis 35th trip since taking office and his first to Hungary.  Far-right leaders Milei and Orban are allied with Trump. In addition to this, Argentina and Hungary are part of the Washington-created Board of Peace, an initiative launched with the stated goal of promoting peacekeeping around the world. Trump has claimed that the Board might replace the United Nations. Although members are required to pay a US$1 million fee to join, Argentina was excluded from this requirement on the grounds of its difficult economic situation. In February, a video of Milei and Orban singing Burning Love by Elvis Presley during a meeting of the Board in the U.S. circulated on social media. On Saturday, Milei will meet Hungarian President Tams Sulyok, at the Sndor Palace. Following this encounter, he is scheduled to get together with Orban at the Carmelite Monastery of Buda before attending the CPAC ceremony.  In the evening, Ludovika University Chancellor Gergely Deli will grant Milei the Civis Universitatis Honoris Causa honor. The Argentine president is expected to depart the country immediately after this ceremony.
