The Buenos Aires City government published details ahead of Franco Colapinto’s exhibition with a Formula 1 car through the city streets. The showcase, during which the Argentine race driver will run through the Bosques de Palermo (Palermo Woods park), has gripped motorsport fans, with estimates that over half a million people will attend the free stands after a limited run of tickets sold out in minutes. The Buenos Aires City government released the schedule for the showcase, including the start times and performance schedules for the other shows and attractions planned for the day. The event will open to the public at 8:30 a.m., when access to the designated sitting areas opens. The Fan Zone — which will feature music acts, giant screens, and activities for attendees — will inaugurate at 9:00 a.m. Franco Colapinto is first expected at 12:45 p.m., when he’ll take the Renault V8-powered Lotus E20 for a spin around the track. He’ll repeat the run at 3:15 p.m. Between those runs, the 22-year-old will climb aboard the vintage Mercedes-Benz W196 that was raced by Juan Manuel Fangio in one of his five F1 World Drivers’ Championship wins, and drive around the track at 2:30 p.m. The event will conclude at 3:55 p.m. with a final lap on an open-top bus, during which Colapinto will tour the circuit to greet attendees, although other activities will continue until approximately 4:15 p.m. Colapinto is also expected to make appearances throughout the day around the track. Screens will be set up at strategic locations on Libertador and Casares; Libertador and Cavia; Figueroa Alcorta and Sarmiento (Planetarium); Figueroa Alcorta and Salguero; Sarmiento and Colombia; Bullrich and Cerviño; Figueroa Alcorta and Dorrego. For those unable to attend, the event will be broadcast live on the cable TV channel ESPN and on the Disney+ Premium streaming service. Which streets will be blocked for Colapinto’s exhibition? Streets will begin to be blocked for Franco Colapinto’s exhibition on Wednesday, April 22, with closures on Iraola Av. between Sarmiento and Infanta Isabel, where the main structures will be installed.
