In 1997, the murgas (neighborhood street bands that work year-round for the Carnival) were declared Buenos Aires City cultural heritage. The 158th Buenos Aires Carnival comes to the neighborhoods with murga performances, as well as music, dance, and culinary offerings. Every murga comes with its own identity and invites everyone to join in on the drum beat to celebrate one of the most representative cultural traditions of the Ro de la Plata region. The full schedule can be found here. The city’s murgas will hold their main parade on Sunday, February 15th, and Monday, February 16th, at the Oscar and Juan Glvez Racetrack.
