The Argentine mens national football team fought back to complete a 3-2 comeback against Egypt, after going 2-0 down in the second half. They will go up against either Switzerland or Colombia on Saturday 11, at Kansas City. In a match that never looked to go the Albicelestes way, the team coached by Lionel Scaloni had to fight from the get go. Egypt took the lead just 15 minutes in. Marwan Ateya put a cross from outside the box into the far post, with Yasser Ibrahim heading it past Emiliano Dibu Martnez for the 1-0 lead. It was the first time the Albiceleste has gone down in a match in the tournament. Just three minutes later, the Albiceleste had the chance to tie it from the penalty spot. However, Messis shot was saved by Egyptian goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir. Its Messis second missed penalty in the tournament, after the one against Austria in the second group-stage match. The match didnt change much in the second half, with Argentina pushing for a goal and Egypt looking for a counter. In the 58th minute, Egyptian forward Mostafa Ziko finished off a deadly Egyptian counter to make it 2-0, but the goal was disallowed after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) instructed the referee to review a foul on Lisandro Martnez at the start of the play. Less than 10 minutes later, he had another opportunity. In a lightning-quick counterattack after an Argentina corner, star Mohamed Salah ran with the ball across the open field and put it for Haissem Hassin to cross, with Ziko tapping into an almost empty goal for the 2-0. With Argentina looking with a foot out, Cristian Cuti Romero sparked hopes of a comeback in the 79th minute by heading in the 2-1 home goal from a Messi cross. Four minutes later, star and captain Lionel Messi made it 2-2 with a volley from inside the box after scrappy play, with Gonzalo Montiel leaving the ball in front of him. The comeback was complete in the added time. In the 92nd minute, Julin lvarez sent a long ball for Lautaro Martnez, who paused the play and put a pinpoint cross for Enzo Fernndez to complete a lightning-quick counterattack and make it 3-2. I cant tell you much, said an emotional Scaloni, who had to leave the post-match interview, unable to take any questions. What a group of players. Cover image: Seleccin Argentina Twitter
